Here’s a snippet from a wonderful article by Desiree Cooper for the Detroit Free Press about me: Gloria Burgess In the News. “Life coach Gloria Burgess understands how hard times can grind down the spirit. Raised in Detroit and Ann Arbor, her father had migrated from Mississippi to find a better life, but it wasn’t much better. ‘We had many days of wondering how to put food on the table… but we learned how to rely upon each other. We had this sense that we were not alone.’”
“Now residing near Seattle, Burgess is the author of ‘Dare to Wear Your Soul on the Outside’ (Jossey-Bass, $16.95), a book that helps people embrace their life calling. ‘For those who are out of a job right now, this is the time to go inside of themselves and find the courage to state their dreams out loud,’ said Burgess. ‘You don’t need to have it worked out or know the details. Just put it out there and soon you’ll find collaborators to make your dream real.’ I was skeptical. But desperate times call for desperate measures. How could it hurt to try?” Read Desiree Cooper’s full article in the Detroit Free Press: Gloria Burgess In the News.
Hello Gloria, I am working with organizers the “You were born for such a time as this” workshops. My job is getting publicity and I would appreciate a quote about what you will talk about. Thank you for your help. EK
Hi Ed ~ So sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I’ve been on the road & not attending to e-mail for a while. Here’s a quote. I hope you can still use it: In times of uncertainty and chaos, we all must ask ourselves, who am I? Who and what really matters—now more than ever? Then we must focus our attention on reaching out to others rather than on ourselves. We’ve had plenty of that. If we want to make a difference, we must remember that we were made to serve one another.
This is very good advice. I remember being afraid to tell my husband I wanted to be a poet. I remember when I got the courage to tell him, he didn’t take it well, but we worked through it. It’s a much better world when I face it as I am and how I want to be.
